The short answer
An album holds a sequence: the small expressions, the family photographs and the pictures that matter together. A canvas gives one image a fixed place on the wall. Many families choose one wall image and an album for the rest, but the right choice depends on where and how you will look at the photographs.
Choose an album when the story matters
An album is useful when you do not want to reduce a session to one favourite. It can hold the beginning of the day, family portraits, close details and the outtakes you keep returning to. Think about whether you will open it on the sofa, take it to grandparents or keep it with other family albums.
Choose a canvas when one picture already has a place
A canvas works when you can picture the wall it will live on. Look at the room from a few steps away. A calm family portrait may fit a living room. A close portrait may suit a quieter corner. The image needs space around it; a crowded wall rarely helps.
Do not choose only from a phone screen
Zooming in to find the sharpest eyelash is not always the best test. A photograph can be technically perfect and still not be the one you want to see every morning. Put a few favourites next to one another and ask which one still feels right after a day or two.
